Restoring Vitality Within Your Sacred Body

Postpartum Support for a Vibrant Healing of Your Re-Birthed Self

Rooted in eastern medicine

Zuo Yuezi (Sitting the Month)

Our customized and nourishing postpartum care is based off the Chinese tradition of Zuo Yuezi. This is the first 30-40 days after birth, a sacred window of healing, often referred to as the “sitting month”, a time honored across many traditional cultures as a period of deep rest, restoration, and rebirth for the mother. Rather than rushing back into daily life, this phase invites a slowing down. The mother is held, supported, and nourished so her body can fully recover from the profound transformation of pregnancy and birth.

Physiologically, this is an intense period of change. The uterus is contracting and returning to its pre-pregnancy size, blood that was built up during pregnancy is being lost and replenished, and hormones are shifting rapidly. The body is also producing breast milk, which requires significant energy, blood, and fluid. From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, this is a time when Qi and Blood are depleted, the channels are open, and the body is especially vulnerable to cold and wind. What is done or not done during this window can have long lasting effects on a woman’s vitality, hormonal balance, and overall health.

Warmth is essential. Keeping the body protected from cold through warm foods, herbal support, heated therapies, and a cozy environment helps the body rebuild and prevents stagnation or future imbalances. Nourishment is equally vital with easily digestible, mineral rich, and blood building foods that support tissue repair, milk production, and energy restoration. Rest is not a luxury during this time. It is a requirement. Deep, uninterrupted rest allows the nervous system to reset, the organs to recover, and the body to integrate the experience of birth.

Perhaps most importantly, the sitting month is not meant to be done alone. Traditionally, the mother is cared for by others. She is fed, supported, and relieved of responsibilities so she can focus solely on healing and bonding with her baby. In a modern world that often overlooks this need, reclaiming this period can be profoundly transformative.

Honoring the sitting month is an investment in a mother’s long term health. When a woman is deeply supported in her healing, she emerges not depleted, but strengthened, rooted, nourished, and ready to step into motherhood with vitality.
